Westminster Boating Base is seeking:

Chief Instructor Watersports

The Chief Instructor will lead both the instructors and volunteers in providing first class training; following both the RYA and BC schemes.  He/she will be directly responsible for the day to day management and delivery of all programmes and activities, from both a practical and an organisational level.  The Chief Instructor is the senior member of the water sports staff and reports directly to the Director of the Trust.  As such he/she will be responsible for record keeping of all programmes.

The Chief Instructor will often be the first point of contact for users and so must be a confidant communicator able to deal the various diverse  interested internal and external parties that are involved with the Base, from the local youth community and schools to the Trustees (in the absence of the Director).

The successful applicant will have strong management skills and leadership experience, with a keen focus in being an informative, engaging and inspirational leader to our young participants; as well as the instructors, volunteers and other users of our facilities.  He/she will be required to ensure a safe environment and adhere to all policies, procedures and regulations and to ensure all such systems and guidelines are kept up to date. A sound working knowledge of boats and engines would also be a definite advantage.

Experience of mentoring and working with young people will be important, together with the drive and ambition to develop the charity’s activities even further.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will currently hold a senior management role with experience of working at a busy centre and should hold an RYA Senior Instructor qualification while a similar qualification in British Canoeing would be advantageous. All applicants should currently hold or will have to obtain a valid enhanced DBS clearance.

Applications for this post will close on Monday 21th August at 09.00am.  The first round of interviews will be held in week commencing the 4th September.

A full job description can be obtained from The Director, Hugh O’Byrne, by emailing hugh@westminsterboatingbase.co.uk.  Please title your e-mail “Chief Instructor Enquiry”.
