BC Paddle Explore - Open Canoe
An exciting new award from British Canoeing, the Paddle Explore award builds upon the foundation skills and techniques learned in the Paddle Discover award.
The award is taught at a maximium ratio of 1:6, a small enough group to focus upon the individual and tailor the skills to personal development of the sport. At the end of this course you will be able to skillfully manoeuvre your craft and have a broad understanding of how to safely take your kayaking further whether that be with our recreational sessions, further development with the BC Personal Performance Awards, or on your own adventures.
Day 1: Under the guidance of our instructors you will learn how to choose and use equipment effectively, further develop practical skills including peer rescues and gain an in-depth understanding of the environment and other factors which will affect your paddling.
Day 2: The group will join our regular paddlers on journeys along the Thames. This will involve covering a few miles of the Thames and seeing some of the sights as you increase your knowledge and awareness of the river, giving you the opportunity to further develop and practise the skills you have learnt as part of our vibrant and friendly paddling community.
There are no pre-requisites for this course other than our minimum age of 10yrs however for you to gain the most out of the course it is recommended that you have had some previous coaching, ideally having completed one of our BC Paddle Discover Awards as the course is suitable for intermediates.
