Visit by Lord Mayor of Westminster

Posted on the 13th of April, 2017

On Tuesday 11th April, the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Steve Summers, arrived at the WBB in his official Rolls Royce to be met by Hugh O’Byrne, the Director of the WBB charity. This was a get-to-know-you informal visit so he was not wearing his impressive robes and regalia. In fact, the Lord Mayor is very friendly and engaging and keen to find out what we do.

Hugh gave him a guided tour of the WBB facilities and he was able to see the children setting out for both kayaking and sailing activities. After coffee and discussions in Hugh’s office the Lord Mayor met Kevin, Adam and Cherie before setting off in one the RIBs for a waterborne view and close up of the sailors and kayakers. Hugh encouraged him to take the helm for a ride down to the Houses of Parliament. This was a first drive for him and it brought a big smile the Lord Mayor’s face. All in all, it was a very positive visit and one that created a positive bond and a new friendship.

A Royal Yachting Association (RYA) & British Canoeing (BC) approved training centre, regulated by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS).
