In June, the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Transport, Nusrat Ghani MP, visited Westminster Boating Base as part of Maritime Safety Week. As well as learning about the youth programmes and training courses offered, the RYA Sailability programme and the history of the base, the Minister was treated to an on-water session with one of our experienced instructors, Asher Robinson, and volunteer Miranda Van Heel.
The Transport and Maritime Minister said, “... it’s been fantastic to visit the Westminster Boating Base facility to learn more about the training on offer... I have been blown away by the passion of the staff training our next generation of sailors.”
Rod Craig, our director, hosted Nusrat Ghani, RYA Chief Executive Sarah Treseder, Training Resources Manager Craig Burton, RYA Sailability Manager Joff McGill, and Director of External Affairs Howard Pridding. He said, “We were able to put the spotlight on the hard work of our staff and volunteers who deliver high quality watersports training to schools, community groups, adults and young people, many of whom are disadvantaged and hard to reach.”
