Dinghy cruising / casual sailing

Enjoy some casual sailing with us at WBB and/or take it farther afield.

The RYA Day Sailing and RYA Seamanship Skills courses will teach you new skills, how to plan for longer journeys and how to stay safe in coastal waters.

Racing

Race at WBB and seize all the glory in our season long series called the Overbury Trophy.

Take an RYA Dinghy Racing Course

Race at the Nationals.

Join the GB squad!

Develop your skills

Take an RYA Level 3 course which consolidates what you have learned already and builds on your confidence and independence.

Go faster! Learn to use gennakers and spinnakers on the RYA Sailing with Spinnakers course. Get a flavour for what the faster end of the sport is about with the RYA Performance Sailing course.

Yachting?

If yachting takes your fancy (larger sailing boats with cabins), as a competent Level 2 dinghy sailor you will know all the basics - it just needs scaling up for the bigger boat!

Get in touch with some coastal yacht clubs as there are usually boat owners looking for crew. Once you're ready to become the skipper of a boat, the RYA Day Skipper and then the RYA Yachtmaster will have you circumnavigating the globe with a parrot on your shoulder!

Become an instructor

Teaching others can be a rewarding pastime and and is a possible career. Many students work casual hours with us to help pay for their studies.

Volunteer to help the instructors at WBB when they are running sessions.

Achieve your Assistant Instructor (AI) certificate at WBB.

Get some teaching practice and log your sessions and hours. Don’t forget to keep working on your personal skills.

In due course you'll be ready to take your Dinghy Instructor (DI) qualification. Before taking this you'll need to achieve the RYA level 2 Powerboat certificate and a recognised 8hr first aid certificate.
